Valley League Baseball News Northern Division Northern Division Player of the Week honors went to junior infielder Stan Poluszny (West Virginia) of Luray. He led the Wranglers to a league best 5-0 record while batting .474 (9-for-19) for the week. Posluszny sparked the Luray offense with five runs scored, six RBIs, three doubles, a triple and a homerun. The Mountaineer led the league with 17 total bases and a .895 slugging percentage. Junior southpaw Joshua MacDonald (Connecticut) of New Market garnered Northern Division Pitcher of the Week honors after helping the Rebels to a 3-2 week. In a match up between division leaders, MacDonald stymied the Covington Lumberjacks offense in a 22-3. The Husky pitched eight complete innings with ten strikeouts. Only two of the three runs allowed were earned against MacDonald. Southern Division Junior designated hitter Taylor Shoop (Davidson) earned Southern Division Player of the Week honors after leading the Staunton Braves to a 4-2 week. Shoop hit safely in all six Staunton games this past week to run his consecutive-games hitting streak to nine. The Wildcat hit .526 (10-for-19) with six runs scored, three RBIs and five doubles. He had a slugging percentage of .789 to help jump Staunton over Harrisonburg for second place in the Southern Division. Pitcher of the Week in the Southern Division was Waynesboro junior right-hander Scott Massey (UT-Martin). He made one starting appearances last week in a 2-1 loss to the New Market Rebels at Rebel Field. Massey pitched 8 1/3 innings allowed five hits and struck out two in the loss. The Rebels were able to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth off of just one hit and two Waynesboro errors to hand Massey the loss.
