By Marcus Helton Daily News Record Staunton – Despite a late rally, the Harrisonburg Turks couldn’t get the big hits when they needed them most. The Turks stranded 11 runners on base, including two in the ninth inning, in Thursday’s 6-4 Valley League loss to Staunton. Staunton improved to 19-16; Harrisonburg fell to 21-18. The Braves and Turks both trail Southern-Division leading Covington by two and a half games, with Staunton holding a narrow lead for second place. The Turks cut a 5-2 deficit to 5-4 in the seventh inning but couldn’t get any closer. With runners on second and third with two outs in the ninth inning, Harrisonburg catcher Matt Sluder (James Madison) lined a hard shot to riht field that potentially could have scored the tying runs. However, Staunton right fielder Kade Keowen (LSU) made a sliding catch to end the game.
