7/23/05 – Turks Tidbits

Arizona LHP Brad Mills gave a stellar performance on the mound tonight at John Moxie Stadium as the Turks beat the Staunton Braves 2-1. Mills (5-0) pitched a complete game striking out 15 batters. Last week Mills was named the Southern Division Pitcher of the Week and the Turks Player of the Week. He went 2-0 in two starts with a 1.20 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 15 innings. On Monday, he earned the victory over Woodstock after allowing two runs in seven innings and striking out 10. He followed that with an overpowering outing on Sunday when he struck out 14 and allowed just three hits in eight innings as Harrisonburg shutout division-leading Covington 4-0. The southpaw’s total of 24 strikeouts was twice as many as the next best total for the week. He also led the league in innings pitched, wins, and runners picked off (3). The win gave the Southern Division second place Turks a 22-19 record and the Braves dropped to 19-19.
