05/15/2006 – Troy State University

Dew Also Tabbed as Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week TROY, Ala. – After turning in a monster offensive performance during a weekend road sweep of Arkansas-Little Rock, Troy University’s Josh Dew was selected as the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball magazine, and was also named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week. Dew, a junior first baseman and pitcher, blasted four home runs, including three in one game, and drove in 11 runs against UALR. He posted a .533 batting average for the week and a 1.400 slugging percentage. In Friday’s game, Dew had a solo homer, a two-run homer and a grand slam in Troy’s 17-7 victory. He just missed hitting two more homers in the game, doubling off the top of the wall in center in one at bat, and launching one out of the park just foul in another. Dew also homered on Sunday and was the winning pitcher, working five innings with five strikeouts. He is hitting .327 on the year with a team-leading 14 homers, second in the Sun Belt, and 48 RBI with a .655 slugging percentage. A former standout at Jeff Davis High School in Montgomery and L.B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Dew is the third Trojans to earn Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week this season and the second to earn the national Player of the Week Award. Teammates Tom King (three times) and Edgar Ramirez have both won Player of the Week honors for the Sun Belt and King was named Louisville Slugger Player of the Week on April 10. The Trojans hold a one-game lead in the Sun Belt Conference race entering the final week of the regular season. Troy (38-14, 17-4) will host Middle Tennessee (27-20, 10-10) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Riddle-Pace Field.
