Valley League News Southern Division Staunton left-hander Wade Korpi (Notre Dame) earns Southern Division Pitcher of the Week honors. The Lake Worth, Fla. native allowed one earned run in seven innings during a 2-1 win over Harrisonburg on June 22. He struck out eight and limited the Turks to five hits while picking up the win. For the season, he is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 19 innings. Woodstock newcomer Michael Ross (Northwest Mississippi C.C.) captured Southern Division Player of the Week accolades for week three. In his first three games as a River Bandit, the switch-hitting second baseman went 6-for-13 with two runs, one RBI, two walks, and three stolen bases. He also had a .462 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. Ross’ .462 batting average ranked fifth in the Valley League and he tied for first in stolen bases. Northern Division New Market’s John Ducey (Armstrong Atlantic State) is the Northern Division Pitcher of the Week. The senior right-hander limited Waynesboro to no runs on three hits during a 7-0 shutout during the battle of division leaders on Wednesday. He struck out three, walked two, and limited the Generals to a .143 team batting average. He ranked first for the week in ERA and fourth in opponent batting average and hits allowed. For the season, Ducey is 3-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 24 innings pitched. Sophomore Brett Bowen (Pensacola J.C.) took home Northern Division Player of the Week honors. The outfielder for the Luray Wranglers led the Valley league with 10 hits and 15 total bases. He hit .500 with three runs, two doubles, one home run, five RBIs, and two walks. He was also second in the VBl with a .750 slugging percentage and fifth with a .545 on-base percentage. In eight games since signing with Luray, he is batting .464 with a .643 slugging percentage and seven RBIs.
