Turks On a Roll

6/30/2006 – Turk Tidbits

Turk Tidbits Written By Matt Kerr, Broadcasting Intern Spotswood High School Graduate After an 0-6 start to their season, the Harrisonburg Turks have rolled through the Valley League Baseball competition, winning nine of their last twelve games. Things did not change on Thursday night when Covington came to town. In the Turks 8-4 victory, things went right from the very beginning. The Lumberjacks’ starter Ben Wade gave up five runs to Harrisonburg in the first two innings, forcing Covington to play catch up for the rest of the game. While Harrisonburg earned two more runs off Wade in his six innings of work, Justin Wood took care of business on the defensive end. In six innings, Wood gave up only four hits and two runs, recording four strikeouts in the process. Steven Ochs and Brett Butts finished the job for the Turks, giving up a combined one hit and two runs. Significant contributers for Harrisonburg include Brandon Harrigan, who went three for four, Bobby Spain, who went two for four, Ryan Rachal, who went two for three, and Clint Robinson, who went two for four. The night was especially sweet for Harrigan, who came into the game batting only .224. For the Turks, the three game home stand wraps on Friday, when arch rival Staunton comes to town for another duel.
