VALLEY BASEBALL LEAGUE WELCOMES FAUQUIER GATORS FOR 2007

9/29/2006 – Valley Baseball League News

HARRISONBURG, Va., Sept. 29, 2006 Valley Baseball League president Dave Biery has announced the addition of the Fauquier Gators to form an eleven-team league for the 2007 summer season. The decision was made at the league’s board of directors meeting on Thursday night. I think it was an excellent move by our directors to add a solid franchise, Biery commented after the expansion decision. They will be a great addition to the league, and hopefully they will help us to eventually reach 12 teams in the VBL. In my point of view, that is the optimum number that we are working towards for the future. We’re really excited about being part of the Valley League, stated Fauquier owner Cecil Campbell after receiving the invitation. I’ve been hoping to get into the league for about five years. Our program is in our seventh year and we are a well-established organization. Our community has tremendous support behind us and our camp program for youth has tripled in size and popularly in recent years. We’ve been looking for a sound place to call our home, and we feel like the Valley Baseball League is the place to be. The Fauquier organization was formed in 2000 by a group titled the Warrenton Fauquier Community Baseball, Inc. with Campbell as the president. The Gators, based in Warrenton, Va., play at Fauquier High School and have been competing since their inception in the Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League based in the Washington, D.C. area. Fauquier went 21-19 in 2006 to finish third in the five-team league. With the addition of Fauquier, the Valley League will be an 11-team league for the 2007 season, with further expansion possible in future seasons. The VBL is a summer wooden-bat league for college baseball players and is funded in part by Major League Baseball. The league is named after the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. In addition to Warrenton, the league includes teams in Covington, Front Royal, Harrisonburg, Haymarket, Luray, New Market, Staunton, Waynesboro, Winchester, and Woodstock.
