NCBWA Preseason All-America Team TROY, Ala. – Troy University senior Josh Dew was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-America third team for 2007 today. Dew, a Montgomery native, led the Trojans in 2006 with 17 home runs and 67 RBI while playing first base, third base and designated hitter. Dew was named to the NCBWA All-America squad as a utility player, in part because of his prowess on the mound, where he had a 5-1 record with seven saves last spring. It is the second time Dew has been honored by the NCBWA. He was named the organization’s National Player of the Week last spring after his performance May 12-14 at Arkansas-Little Rock when he had four home runs and 11 RBI in the three-game series. Among the 61 players named to the NCBWA Preseason All-America teams, only three players hit more home runs that Dew last year and only four had more than his 67 RBI. Dew also ranked ninth among all of the players picked in saves and sixth overall in strikeouts per nine innings pitched. Dew was one of just two players from the Sun Belt Conference named to the squad, joining South Alabama’s David Doss, who was selected as the third team designated hitter. Five players from teams Troy will face during the 2007 season were named to the squad. In addition to Doss from South Alabama the All-America team included: OF Emeel Salem from Alabama (1st team), SP Nick Schmidt from Arkansas (1st team), OF Eric Rose from Michigan (3rd team) and SP Tommy Hunter from Alabama (3rd team). The Trojans will open the 2007 season the weekend of February 9-11 at Riddle-Pace Field against Schmidt and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Troy is scheduled to play a 29-game home schedule, plus three games in Dothan at the Screentech Wiregrass Classic.
