Troy’s Josh Dew Named To Award Watch Lists

Clemens Award Release Brooks Wallace Award Release TROY, Ala. – Troy University senior pitcher/first baseman Josh Dew has been named to the watch lists for both the Brooks Wallace College Player of the Year Award and The Roger Clemens Award which is presented annually to the top pitcher in college baseball. Dew, a Montgomery native, was also recently named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s preseason All-America team for 2007. The Brooks Wallace Award is presented annually by the College Baseball Foundation and is named for the former Texas Tech shortstop and assistant coach who died in 1985, at the age of 27, from cancer. Brad Lincoln, from the University of Houston, won the award following the 2006 season. Other past winners include: Alex Gordon, Kurt Suzuki, Andy Benes, Ben McDonald, Mike Kelly, Bobby Jones, Mike Smith, Darren Dreifort, Jason Varitek, Mark Kotsay, Kris Benson, Lance Berkman, Brad Wilkerson and Jason Jennings. The Roger Clemens Award was established in 2004 and is presented by the Greater Houston Baseball Association. The first three winners of the award were Jered Weaver of Long Beach State in 2004, Luke Hochevar of Tennessee in 2005 and Andrew Miller from North Carolina this past spring. Dew and the Trojans will open the 2007 season the weekend of February 9-11 at Riddle-Pace Field against Schmidt and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Troy is scheduled to play a 29-game home schedule, plus three games in Dothan at the Screentech Wiregrass Classic.
