Turks Fall to the Royals

Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va. – Last night’s match-up between the Winchester Royals and the Harrisonburg Turks ended in an unfortunate 3-2 loss for the Turks. The game began once again with the opposing team plating the first run of the game. On the mound for the Turks was left-handed sophomore Chris Chapman (Chesapeake, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Miss. Gulf Coast C. C.). Pat Robey (Longview, Texas/Southern Arkansas) got on base first for the Royals with a leadoff walk to start the inning. Jake Swint (Westerville, Ohio/Toledo) would then come to the plate and groundout to the pitcher, advancing Robey to second. Joseph Sanders (Millbrook, Alahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Auburn) would follow with another groundout moving Robey to third. Robey would then score on a single hit by right fielder Jose Cueto (Miami, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Virginia Tech). Winchester’s lone run would be the only run to cross the plate until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Turks would finally answer with a run. Catcher Mike Pericht (Orland Park, Illhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Saint Joseph) led off for the Turks with a single up the middle. Alex Lyons (Orem, Utah/Taft) would follow with a groundout to the pitcher, advancing Pericht to second. Pericht would advance to third on a wild pitch made by Royal’s pitcher Taylor DuFrene (Newport News, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Shenandoah). Jon Moore (Mokena, Illhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Purdue) would come to the plate next scoring Pericht with a single into centerfield to tie the game at 1. The score would stay tied until the top of the ninth when things would start to fire up. Royals catcher Jared Barkdoll (Greencastle, Pahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Francis Marion) would be hit by a pitch and come to the bases first for Winchester. Will Delawter (Frederick, Mdhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Maryland-Baltimore County) would come in to pinch hit for designated hitter Mason Seelinger (North Little Rock, Arkhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Central Arkansas) and knock a double into leftfield to score Barkdoll to put the Royals on top once again. Peyton Seelinger (North Little Rock, Arkhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Central Arkansas) would then groundout to the shortstop advancing Delawter to third. Delawter would then score on a passed ball by Turks catcher Mike Pericht. With two outs the Turks would answer in the bottom of the ninth with a single up the middle by Lyons. Moore would come to the plate once again and this time reach on an error by the Royals’ shortstop, Robey, while Lyons would advance to second. Right fielder Sammy Lee (Ninnekah, Oklahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Redlands C. C.) followed with a single up the middle to score Lyons and advance Moore to third. The Turks however would come up one run shy dropping to 1-3 while the Royals would improve their record to 3-2. The Turks will travel to Luray tonight to take on the Wranglers at 7:30.
