Chatter Written By Dustin Dopirak Daily News Record Harrisonburg Turks manager Bob Wease maintains that he knew Tony Thomas, Jr. would be a star all along, even though the latter’s season with the Turks might have suggested otherwise. The Florida State second baseman hit just .241 for the Turks in the summer of 2005. Though he scored 30 runs, good for second on the team, he also struck out 32 times. third worst on the club. Two years later, however, Thomas is Collegiate Baseball’s National Player of the Year. wotj jos /43- batteromg average ranking him seventh in the nation. He’s second in the nation in runs per game with 1.47 (91 overall) and first in doubles per game with .053 (33). Thomas was the highest selected former Turk in last week’s Major League Baseball draft, going in the third round. No 97 overall, to the Chicago Cubs. "When you watch Tony play, the way he runs, the way he turns the double play, the way he handles himself, I project Tony Thomas to be in the big leagues one day," Wease said. "Four or five years from now, he should be in the show."
