Rain Ends Turks Chance for a Comeback

Written By Jessica Merrill Sports Management Intern, James Madison University Tonight’s game was a short one, effected yet again by the stormy weather that has come to blanket most of the surrounding area. The game ended after the fifth inning in Luray’s favor with a score of 1-0. The Wranglers only run of the night came by way of a solo homerun belted by right fielder Adan Severino (Hialeah, Flahttp://www.HarrisonburgTurks.com/NewsManager/Broward C. C.) in the top of the second inning. The Turks bats were silent for tonight’s game totaling only four hits on the evening. Ryan Ellison would take his first loss of the season for the Turks going five complete innings, giving up three hits and one run, while striking out six and walking just two. Wranglers’ pitcher Robert Gilliam would take the win for the night going five complete innings as well, giving up four hits while striking out six and walking only one. The Turks will travel to Staunton yet again on Thursday to face the Braves at 7:30. Friday night, June 15th, the Turks are back at home facing the New Market Rebels (4-4). It’s Meet the TURKS Night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Fans are encouraged to bring the TURKS insert featuring all of the 2007 Turks, out of the Daily News Record on Friday from 6:15 to 6:45 for an autograph session with the TURKS. It’s also Special Olympic Recognition Night and the Bridgewater Challengers Baseball League will be the TURKS special guests. All campers from Session One TURKS Camp this week will be recognized on the field for their great participation and hard work. Let’s pack the stands at Veterans Memorial Stadium this Friday night and cheer our TURKS on to a victory!!!
