6/27/2007 – Turk Tidbits

Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., June 26, 2007 – It seems the Fauquier Gators are having a difficult time transitioning from the Clark Griffith League to the Valley League as they fell yet again, this time to the Turks by a score of 6-1. The Turks improved their record tonight to 14-4 lighting up the scoreboard first scoring 1 run on 2 hits in the bottom of the first. Left fielder B.J. Wheeler (Abilene, Texas/Clarendon) started things off for the Turks singling into center field. Catcher Robert Taylor (Ingram, Texas/Arkansas-Little Rock) also contributed with a single up the middle, advancing Wheeler to second. First baseman David Dennis (El Cajon, Califhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Oklahoma City) would push things along by flying out to right field, scoring Wheeler. The Turks would go on to score 1 more in the bottom of the third. The Gators would answer the Turks’ two runs with a run of their own in the top of the fourth. Shortstop Brent Greer (Stephens City, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Western Carolina) would start things off for Fauquier with a single shot into center field. Greer would advance to second on a passed ball by Turks’ catcher Taylor. Gator’s center fielder Jeffrey Hartwig (Toledo, Ohio/Urbana) would then come to the plate singling to second base, advancing Greer to third. Left fielder Brian McDonough (Hanover, Masshttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Marist) would groundout into a double play, but Greer would score on the play. The Turks would answer the Gators’ threat by scoring 2 more runs in the bottom of the fourth beginning with a double from right fielder Alex Lyons (Orem, Utah/Taft) down the left field line. Center fielder Jon Moore (Mokena, Illhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Purdue) would follow with a single to third base, advancing Lyons to third, who would then score on an error by Gators’ first baseman Kurt Lipton (Boca Raton, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Vanderbilt). Moore would steal second, and Taylor would follow with a single through the left side of the field that would allow Moore to score the fourth run of the game.
