Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., July 14, 2007 – The Harrisonburg Turks dropped to 22-10 tonight as the Staunton Braves took the game by a score of 4-1. The game began with three scoreless innings of play then, in the bottom of the fourth, Turks first baseman David Dennis (El Cajon, Califhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Oklahoma City) hit a deep fly ball into right field to score shortstop Ryan Wood (Woodbridge, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/East Carolina) from third. The Braves however would answer back quickly in the top of the fifth, scoring one run on center fielder Chris Wilkins’ (Baltimore, Mdhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Shepherd) single into right field that would allow left fielder Luke Padgett (Lynchburg, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Virginia Tech) to score. The score would stay tied at one until the top of the seventh when Staunton would score three runs on four hits. Braves’ starting pitcher Robbie Conver (Margate, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Barry) limited the Turks to just one hit on the night, while closing pitcher Bobby Hernandez (Key West, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Barry) limited them to one as well. Hernandez gained his ninth save of the season against the Turks’ tonight closing out the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Turks will take a couple days off for rest and then look to begin a three game home streak starting with the Woodstock River Bandits on Tuesday at 7:30.
