Turks Beat Covington 4-2 Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., July 18, 2007 – The Harrisonburg Turks snapped their three game losing streak tonight taking a win from the Covington Lumberjacks by a score of 4-2. Turks’ shortstop Ryan Wood (Woodbridge, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/East Carolina) and right fielder Robert Taylor (Ingram, Texas/Ark-Little Rock) each had two hits on the night. Wood also scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. First baseman David Dennis (El Cajon, Califhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Oklahoma City) had one hit on the night, as did second baseman Travis Peep (Chandler, Arizhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Arizona), designated hitter Andrew Franco (Destin, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Appalachian St), left fielder Alex Lyons (Orem, Utah/Taft), and center fielder Sammy Lee (Ninnekah, Oklahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Redlands CC). Franco and Lyons would both score runs in the bottom of the second while Peep would score in the bottom of the seventh. Dennis and Peep would each drive in a run of their own, Dennis during the seventh off a fielder’s choice and Peep during the second with a groundout to the sixth hole. Catcher John Murphy (Scottsdale, Arizhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Arizona) and third baseman Brett Stewart (Niceville, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Appalachian St) would each have RBIs on the night as well. Turks’ starting pitcher Ryan Ellison (Clanton, Alahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Troy) was the story of the night however, pitching nine complete innings, scattering five hits and giving up just two runs while striking out eleven. Ellison has a 3-1 record for the season. The Turks will look to pick up another win as they face the Cardinals of Front Royal Thursday night at home in a make-up rain game. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
