7/19/2007 – Turk Tidbits
Written By Jessica Merrill James Madison University Sports Management Intern Harrisonburg, Va., July 19, 2007 – Tonight the Harrisonburg Turks pulled out a 3-2 win against the Cardinals of Front Royal. After getting off to a late start due to rain showers that passed through the Harrisonburg area the Cardinals decided to start things off first by scoring two runs in the top of the first. Front Royal would keep that two run lead until the bottom of the fourth when the Turks would score two runs of their own. Catcher Mike Pericht (Orland Park, Illhttp://www.HarrisonburgTurks.com/NewsManager/Saint Joseph) would drive in the first run of the game by hitting a double into center field that would allow first baseman Brett Stewart (Niceville, Flahttp://www.HarrisonburgTurks.com/NewsManager/Appalachian State) to score. Alex Lyons (Orem, Utah/Taft) would then follow Pericht with a single to left field that would score Pericht to tie the game at two. The score would stay tied through the seventh until the bottom of the eighth when right fielder Robert Taylor (Ingram, Texas/Ark-Little Rock) would hit a home run into right field to score the game-winning run of the night. The Turks (24-11) travel to Fauquier to take on the Gators Friday night and then return home Saturday to host the Luray Wranglers.
