Sunday Night’s Game Postponed

07/20/2008 – Turks Tidbits

There was a great crowd at Veterans Memorial Stadium tonight all ready for a long awaited game against the Fauquier Gators. The scheduled game (Saturday, June 21st)in the first half of the season hasn’t taken place yet. It was rained out three times. Monday, July 21st the two teams are going to try for the fourth time to play that game. However, tonight was the regular scheduled game in the second half of the season for the Turks to face Fauquier at home. But it didn’t happen. It wasn’t Mother Nature that came into play to postpone the game this time. In the top of the third inning the plate umpire noticed that the center-field lights weren’t on and called for a game delay. Harrisonburg Electric Commission was called to come check things out. HEC decided it wasn’t a problem with their equipment. So James Madison University was summoned next. It took one and one-half hours to get the right people to the stadium, only to have them decide that nothing could be done at that time. The game was finally called at 10:15 p.m. The teams will play a double-header tomorrow night (Monday, July 21st). Monday night’s game will start at 6:00 p.m. and will resumme play in the 3rd inning for a 9-inning game. After a twenty minute break the second game will be a 7-inning game. Tonight’s game tickets will be honored for Game One. The stadium will be cleared between games and admission for Game Two will be charged. We want to thank all of our loyal fans that hung around for hours waiting to see if the game was going to be played. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support. During pre-game activities the fans did get to watch Tom Hutton of Dominos Pizza and Coach Bob Wease of the Harrisonburg Turks present Kevin Byerly, the $1,000.00 Dominos Pizza Toss winner from last week with his check . Many thanks to Dominos Pizza for their years of continued loyal support for Turks baseball and our fans! We hope to see everyone back at Veterans Memorial Stadium for the last week of regular season home games: Monday, July 21st double-header against Fauquier Thursday, July 24th against Waynesboro Saturday, July 26th against New Market Monday, July 28th against Covington in a make up rain game
