Drew Johnson Named to VBL Player of the Week

VBL Pitchers and Players of the Week VBL Week Players of the Week Tyler Townsend, Winchester, 1B, So., Lewes, Del. (Florida International) Townsend had an impressive last week with a batting average of .565, 10 runs scored, 13 hits, six doubles, one triple, one home run, nine RBIs and 24 total bases in 23 at bats. His slugging percentage was 1.043 with a .643 on-base percentage. The Golden Panther also used his speed to successfully steal five bases. Among the league last week, Townsend ranked second in batting average, first in slugging percentage, first in on-base percentage, first in runs scored, tied for first for hits, tied for second in RBIs, first in doubles, first in total bases and tied for second in stolen bases. For the season, Townsend is leading his team in the following; batting average with .405, runs scored with 36, hits with 53, doubles with 12, home runs with 11, total bases with 100, slugging percentage with .763, on-base percentage with .512 and tied for RBIs with 34. He leads the league in batting, slugging and on-base percentage. Joe Agreste, Winchester, 1B/OF, Jr., Chesapeake, Va. (West Virginia) Agreste was one of the more impressive players last week with a batting average of .500, six runs scored, 13 hits, two doubles, one triple, one home run, nine RBIs and 20 total bases in 26 at bats. The Mountaineer’s slugging percentage was .769 and an on-base percentage of .519. In the league, Agreste ranked fourth in batting average, tied for first in hits, second in RBIs and second in total bases. On the season, Agreste has a batting average of .333, 23 runs scored, 38 hits, eight doubles, six home runs, 21 RBIs, 66 total bases, a slugging percentage of .579 and an on-base percentage of .392 in 114 at bats. Brandon Sizemore, Waynesboro, 2B, Jr., Bryceville, Fla. (Charleston) From the College of Charleston, Sizemore and a notable last week with a batting average of .444, five runs scored, eight hits, two doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBIs and 18 total bases in 18 at bats. Helping his team be number one in the league, Sizemore had a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .545 with a total of five stolen bases. The Charleston Cougar ranked second in slugging percentage, first in RBIs, tied for third in total bases and tied for second in stolen bases among the league. Sizemore leads his team in batting average with .394, tied in runs scored with 31, home runs with nine, slugging percentage with .779, on-base percentage with .488 and stolen bases with 14. He also has 41 hits, 11 doubles, 32 RBIs and 81 total bases for the season. Drew Johnson, Harrisonburg, OF, Jr., Reno, Nev. (San Francisco) In last week’s performance, Johnson had a batting average of .400, six runs scored, 10 hits, two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs and 18 total bases on 25 at bats. The San Francisco Don had a slugging percentage of .720 and an on-base percentage of .444 to help the Turks last week. In the league, Johnson tied for first in hits and tied for third in total bases. For the season, Johnson leads his team in batting average with .364, runs scored with 32, hits with 56, doubles with 10, total bases with 86, slugging percentage with .558 and a slugging percentage of .413. He also has six home runs, 23 RBIs and eight stolen bases. VBL Pitchers of the Week Jon Luke Jacobs, Fauqiuer, RHP, Fr., Gainestown, Ala. (Auburn) The left-handed pitcher from Auburn was 1-0 last week with three appearances. Jacobs recorded an impressive 17 strikeouts, two saves and a combined shutout last week. The Auburn Tiger allowed only three hits out of 30 at bats, which gave him a .100 opponent batting average. Jacobs also had zero earned runs scored against him. In the league, Jacobs was tied for first in ERA with 0.00, third in opponent batting average, first in strikeouts and second in saves. For the season, Jacobs has a record of 4-1 with a 1.10 ERA, two saves, five earned runs, an opponent batting average of .179 and leads his team in strikeouts with 68. Brach Davis, Woodstock, LHP, So., Southaven, Miss. (Memphis) The Memphis Tiger went 1-0 last week while having a no-hitter through eight innings. Davis had 12 strikeouts in 26 at bats and an opponent batting average of .000. Davis was tied for first in ERA, first in opponent batting average, first in runs allowed with zero and first in hits allowed. For the season, Davis has an ERA of 3.50, record of 3-3, 17 earned runs in 43 2/3 innings pitched, leads the team in strikeouts with 51 and has an overall opponent batting average of .205. Ben Blanton, Fauquier, LHP, Fr., Alpharetta, Ga. (Vanderbilt) Vanderbilt’s left-handed pitcher was the only pitcher in the league last week to go 2-0. Blanton pitched 13 innings with just 10 hits out of 45 at bats. Blanton pitched a 10-0 complete game shutout against Haymarket and also pitched up a win in four innings against Harrisonburg. In those two games, Blanton only allowed one earned run, 11 strikeouts and had an opponent batting average of .222. Blanton is 4-0 on the season with an ERA of 2.33, one shutout, 27 innings pitched, seven earned runs, 21 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .281 in 96 at bats.
