Wranglers and Storms Rain on Turks Parade

07/30/2008 – Turks Tidbits

Written by Andy May, Broadcasting Intern Bridgewater College Harrisonburg- Coming off of a decisive win at Luray last night, the Harrisonburg Turks were unable to produce the offense to beat the Wranglers, losing 8-1. Michael Precise (Troy) hit a single in the first inning, but that was the Turks only hit until the fourth. Precise was 1 for 3 on the night. In the top of the fourth, the Wranglers took control of the game as the Turks pitching struggled. Gus Miller (Ohio State) knocked in Ryan Schimpf (LSU) on a sacrifice fly to put Luray up 1-0. The next batter, C.J. Lurillio (Miami-Dade C.C.), hit a single, knocking in two runs. Lurillio led the Wranglers going 2 for 3 with two RBIs. The Wranglers big fourth inning was not over yet; Austin Markel (WVU) belted a home run to push Luray’s lead to 4-0. Markel finished the game going 2 for 4 with two home runs. After a rain delay the Turks looked to rebound, but were unable to do so. B.J. Wheeler (Oklahoma City) hit a home run in the eighth, but that was the only run for the Turks. Wheeler was 1 for 4. The Turks and the Wranglers square up tomorrow night at Luray to determine which team will advance to the second round of the playoffs.
