The Last Stand at Veterans Memorial Stadium

09/10/08 – Turks Tidbits and Around the Valley League in 60 Days

Turks fans, unfortunately one of the shortcomings of our website is that I’ve not been able to figure out how to post pictures for your enjoyment. I promise to work on that during the off-season because I definitely have tons of pictures to share. I do hope that you’ll take the time to go to our friend Jerry Carter’s blog site http://www.aroundthevalleyin60days.blogspot.com and look at the pictures of Veterans Memorial Stadium that he took yesterday. It’ll show you the present status of the demolition of the stadium. Things definitely look different. We’re still awaiting a date for the demolition of the stadium structure. Tonight, Wednesday, September 10th James Madison University is hosting an open house to the public from 6:00-8:00 at the old Harrisonburg High School/the current JMU Memorial Hall. It will give the public the opportunity to see the updates that they’ve made at the school and there will also be drawings, etc. of the new JMU sports complexes that are to be opened in 2010. The new Veterans Memorial Stadium is scheduled to be ready for the JMU Dukes 2010 spring season and then for the Harrisonburg Turks summer season. As sad as it is to see the old VET go, we are looking forward to an amazing new home for the Turks and their fans to enjoy for years to come. We’ll make new and exciting memories together at the new Veterans Memorial Stadium. During the 2009 season the Harrisonburg Turks will be playing their home games at James Madison University’s Long Field. It will be necessary to play day games since there are no lights at Long Field. The Valley Baseball League is working on the 2009 schedule at this time. The Turks will post their schedule as soon as it’s available. Now don’t forget, go to Jerry Carter’s site, www.around the valleyin60days.blogspot.com and take a last look at his pictures of Veterans Memorial Stadium.
