Turks Humbled By Staunton 10-2

07/02/2009 – Turks Tidbits

Written By Matthew Vanover James Madison University Harrisonburg, VA. – The Turks skid continued tonight as they lost their third in a row, falling to Staunton, 10-2. Staunton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. The Braves got 16 hits off of three different Turks pitchers. The Braves were leading the Turks 5-1 in the seventh when they opened the flood gates. First baseman Todd Brazeal (Tampa, Flahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/South Florida) got the third of his four hits on the day when he hit a towering three run shot over the left field fence. Along with his four hits, Brazeal had a fine day at first with eight putouts; three of those putouts being line drive catches. Staunton starting pitcher David Gibson (Williamsburg, Vahttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Bluefield) scattered ten Harrisonburg hits, giving up two runs in eight innings of work. Bobby Brown (San Diego, Califhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/Arizona) and Raymond Quinones (New York, N.Yhttps://harrisonburgturks.com/NewsManager/UNC-Greensboro) were the only Turks batters with multiple hits. Brown’s final at bat in the eighth resulted in a solo home run over the right field fence. Quinones managed two singles to right center. Both Brown and Quinones were impressed with the pitching of Gibson. “He (Gibson) did a good job of keeping us off balance. He changed speed with not only his curveball, but his fastball as well,” Brown recalled. Although Quinones went two for four, he still credited his counterpart with an impressive outing. “Their pitcher just threw a lot of junk. I guessed right on my final at bat and I got a solid hit on his fastball,” Quinones said. The Turks travel to Waynesboro on Friday and Luray on Saturday before returning home on Sunday for a doubleheader against Fauquier. Starting time for the doubleheader is 2 p.m. at Long Field Mauck Stadium on James Madison University’s main campus.
