Woodstock , Va- The Turks got off to a promising start tonight being ahead 5-0 going into the bottom of the third. But, in the bottom of the third Woodstock put up five runs, and started their comeback to victory winning 10-9.

The Turks got four runs in the second inning with two RBI’s from Thomas Nichols, and an RBI each from Parker Brunelle and Bobby Brown. Nichols and Brown both had an impressive game at the plate each getting three hits. Nichols also later hit a game tying home run in the top of the eighth that tied the game at nine.

In the top of the third the Turks took what seemed to be a commanding 5-0 lead over Woodstock with Jack Posey scoring from third on a wild throw from the Woodstock catcher. But, in the bottom of the third Woodstock answered with a two run RBI single from Stephen Hunt, and a three run home run from Matthew Blow.

After Woodstock answered with five runs in the third Posey put the Turks back on top in the fourth with an RBI single that drove in Bobby Brown. In that same inning Nathan Weglarz made a spectacular diving catch in center field that saved two runs, and kept the Turks up for the time being 6-5. Weglarz later hit a two run home run in the top of the sixth that drove in Bobby Brown who led off the inning with a triple to give the Turks another comfortable lead 8-5.

But, the comfortable lead did not last and the great offensive performance was not enough in this contest as the River Bandits out did the Turks by one run. In the bottom of the sixth the River Bandits got two runs from a sac fly by Shawn Albett and a throwing error to third base. In the bottom of the seventh the River Bandits momentarily took the lead 9-8 with a game tying home run from Eric Kroll, and then an RBI single by Gerardo Caceres that put them ahead. In the bottom of the ninth it was Caceres again who put the River Bandits ahead once and for all with a game winning RBI single to left field.

The Turks play again tomorrow at Covington who is another team fighting for a playoff spot. Tomorrow might be an important day for both teams concerning their playoff fate. The Turks and Covington will finish a game that took place on the ninth of July that was called right before the start of the 11th inning due to darkness with both teams tied at five. That game will start at 6:30, and then they will play the game that was scheduled for 7:30.
