Thompson Leaving VP Post

10/15/2009 – Valley Baseball League Newsroom

Todd Thompson Retires from Valley Baseball League Vice President Post

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Valley Baseball League President Dave Biery announced Thursday that his Executive VP, Todd Thompson, has decided not to seek re-election to the position.

Valley League officials are on annual terms and Thompson, who has been the VP of the league since selling the Winchester Royals in 2004, elected not to seek another term.

“I just felt it was the right time for me to step away,” Thompson said. “I love baseball and the Valley League, but I need to concentrate on my business here in Winchester and it is not fair to either the Valley or to my family to try and do both at this time.

Thompson is the owner of Impressions Plus printing company in Winchester and Front Royal.

With Thompson’s departure, the league will be seeking a new person to fill his spot on the Board of Directors.

“Todd did an outstanding job as VP and we are going to miss him,” Biery said. “With the league expanding as it has in the past five years, it is almost too much for just one person to administer. Todd was invaluable to me as a resource and to help with the day-to-day operations during the season.

“I plan on leaning on him in the future whenever appropriate.”

Thompson’s departure ends for now an official association with the league that stretches back 17 years. Prior to this becoming the Executive VP in 2004, Thompson was majority owner and president of the Winchester Royals from 1995 to 2004 and VP of the Royals from 1992-95.

“Only a fool says never again, so I can’t say that my time in the Valley is completely finished,” Thompson said. “Running a Valley League team would be a tremendous amount of fun for someone who is retired.”

The Valley League, a collegiate summer wood-bat league funded in part by Major League Baseball and playing under NCAA rules, has 12 teams in three divisions from Winchester to Covington in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley.

The Haymarket Senators won the league’s championship this August over the Covington Lumberjacks.
