06/11/2011 – Turks Tidbits
Written by Nathaniel Stoltz James Madison University
While the primary theme of the 2011 Turks season has undoubtedly been the team’s success on the field, another storyline running through the last days of spring is the long string of awards being won by Turks players. The latest accolades go to center fielder Colby Roberts and infielder Casey Goss, who were named to the NJCAA Region 16 All-Region team after having exceptional seasons for Crowder College and Jefferson College, respectively.
Both players, having finished their junior college eligibility, will be transferring to James Madison in the fall to continue their promising careers.
Roberts hit .295 with four home runs and easily led his team with 32 stolen bases. Goss hit a fantastic .356, posted a .415 on-base percentage, and swiped 32 bags of his own.
Roberts and Goss have both been strong presences for the Turks both offensively and defensively, often serving as the leadoff and #2 hitters for the team and manning key middle-of-the-diamond positions with aptitude.
Congratulations to both players for their achievement! Obviously, everyone here with the Turks hopes that Colby and Casey continue to succeed – not only in the Valley League this summer, but also with the Dukes next spring and wherever else their careers take them!
