Turks Fall 7-2 to Waynesboro

W: Devin Smith (2-0)
L: Alex Cruz  (0-1)

The Waynesboro Generals (5-3) survived a late Harrisonburg rally to grab a 7-2 win over the Turks (7-2) Sunday night. It’s the first loss for the Turks in six games, dating back to June 3.

The Generals blasted balls deep into the outfield all night, amassing 14 hits in total by the end of the game. As impressive as their offensive output was, Waynesboro’s real ace was on the mound. Starter Devin Smith (2-0), who earned his second win in as many starts, went for seven full innings with eight strikeouts and no walks. He gave up just one run on four hits before stepping aside for reliever Greg Cooke in the eighth inning.

Alex Cruz (0-1) took the loss for the Turks. Cruz pitched ten outs before being relieved in the fourth inning; he allowed six runs, all earned, in his first outing of the season.

Harrisonburg will return to action at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Tuesday, May 12 to face the Staunton Braves.
