Robinson’s Journey Through the Minors

By Paul Disselkoen

Former Turks continue to make noise in the majors as another player will get his chance in the big leagues.  After 105 minor league homers, 27-year-old Clint Robinson was promoted to the majors by the Royals for the first time on July 8th.   A 2005 Turk, Clint Robinson has dominated the Kansas City Royals farm system over the past 3 years, and will now get his shot at the show.  The Royals wanted to add a left-hand hitter to the line-up.

The Former Troy University star was drafted in by the Royals in the 25th round in 2007. Robinson earned the Texas League Triple crown in 2010 while playing for Double A Northwest Arkansas.  On the season, Robinson hit .335 with 29 HR. The next year he continued his success hitting .326 with a powerful 58 extra-base-hits.  Rather than keeping an extra pitcher, left-hander Ryan Verdugo, on an upcoming road trip, the Royals hope to add some power to the bench by making the move.  Robinson’s not a big strikeout guy.  In fact, this year, he’s fanned just 31 times versus 38 walks in 220 at-bats.  Clint Robinson is a burgeoning star in the Kansas City system, and has been followed closely by those in the organization.

This weekend the former Turk Clint Robinson will most likely see action in a pinch-hitting role vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates.
