A showdown in Woodstock pitted the Valley League’s best record against its hottest team. The result was a dominant performance by the Harrisonburg Turks, a 6-3 victory for the team’s sixth straight win.

Harrisonburg (11-5) took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and scored one run in four of the next six innings. Center fielder Thomas Spitz and third baseman Thomas Smith both finished 2 of 3 at the plate, and they scored a combined 3 runs. Left fielder Eric Kalbfleisch and second baseman Andy Perez both finished 2 of 4.

Justin Camp, who is blooming into the team’s ace, took a one-hitter through seven innings. Woodstock finally broke through late, scoring three times in the bottom of the eighth; only one run was earned.

Adam Cherry closed out the ninth inning for his second save of the season.

Around the VBL, Aldie won in Staunton 10-2. The Braves (11-6) have lost three of their last four, and now trail Harrisonburg in the Southern standings by half a game. They will host Waynesboro on Sunday evening.
