A Squad of Spartans Set to Sign with the Turks

Former 1992 Harrisonburg Turk, UNC Greensboro Head Coach Link Jarrett has been a constant source of sending talented players to the Turks each summer. This season isn’t any different.

UNC Greensboro second baseman Austin Embler will be an important part of the Turks infield. The 5-9, 165 pound junior has produced a lot of offense for the Spartans this spring. Embler has a .398 batting average in 108 at-bats with 23 runs, 43 hits, 4 doubles, 1 triple , 3 home runs with 25 RBI’s, 14 walks and is 3-for-4 stolen bases. He’s also effective defensively with a .943 fielding percentage.

Embler will be joined with three fellow Spartans. Sophomore right hand pitcher Michael Bates was red-shirted last year due to injury, but has recovered well and in anxious to get on the mound at Veterans Memorial Park this summer. The 5-9, 165 pound pitcher is from Southerns Pines, NC.

Jack Maynard, a 5-11, 195 pound junior pitcher from  Crozet, VA makes a strong case for earning significant time on the mound in Harrisonburg this summer, as he earned 121 strikeouts last year. This spring Maynard has a 6.96 ERA with a 2-2 record in 32.1 innings pitched, giving up 40 hits, 25 runs and struck out 34 batters. Welcome to the Turks Jack!

Trey Jacobs red-shirted his freshman year, but looks to earn playing time for the Turks this summer. At 6-3, 190, Jacobs can play both third base and outfield. Good luck at the VET this summer!
