Andrus Named Signs USA Player of the Week

Harrisonburg’s Ty Andrus has been named the Signs USA Player of the Week after a strong performance in three different competitions.

In two League games, Andrus led the Turks in batting (.556) and on-base percentage (.600) for the week, scoring four runs.

Andrus also starred in two All-Star competitions over the past seven days as well. He earned Game MVP honors in the VBL All-Star Game, going 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot.

He had a big day the next weekend in the VBL’s 6-0 win over the SCBL at the Southern Collegiate Showcase, going 2-for-4 with a sacrifice bunt and a run scored.

In all competitions, Andrus was 11-for-18 (.611).

Signs USA is sponsoring the Valley Baseball League Player of the Week for the second season in 2017.

Honorable Mention:

Shaggy Freeland, 3B/RF, Purcellville Cannons- Bashed three homers and 10 RBIs on the week, slugging .905.

Dylan Hardy, OF, Front Royal Cardinals- Led the VBL for the week with 12 hits. Batted .444 with four runs scored.

Richard Miller, 3B, Staunton Braves- Hit .412 with team-bests in hits (seven) and runs scored (six).

Brandon Quaranta, OF, Strasburg Express- Hit .471 and slugged 1.000 in four league games, with two homers and seven RBIs. Also won the Home Run Derby and had two RBIs in the VBL’s win over the SCBL during the same week.

Dillon Reed, OF, Winchester Royals- Led the team in batting (.444) while adding four RBIs and four runs.

Jacob Reimold, 3B/DH,Woodstock River Bandits- Led the team in batting (.421), hits (eight) and RBIs (four), while homering once.

Jacob Rhinesmith, OF, New Market Rebels- Hit .478 for the week, including a monster 6-for-6 performance with six RBIs vs. Strasburg.

Eric Rosenberg, RP, Covington Lumberjacks-  Allowed just one baserunner in 4.0 relief innings, striking out four.

Malik Stephens, OF, Waynesboro Generals- Hit .462 and slugged .692, going 6-for-13 with a triple.

Bryce Windham, SS, Charlottesville Tom Sox- Hit .615 (8-for-13) with an on-base percentage of .706, scoring five times.
