Two Rider Broncs Riding to Harrisonburg this Summer

It’s not only technological wonders that make the world come together in a matter of minutes, but baseball is a small world as well. Rider University has sent players to the Valley Baseball League for years. This will only be the second year that a Rider player has played at Veterans Memorial Park for the Turks, but the Bronc Head Coach Barry Davis is very familiar with the Harrisonburg community. Davis played and graduated from local Bridgewater College. Davis was an All-Conference and All-State shortstop at Bridgewater, earning team MVP honors as a junior.

Rider sophomore infielder, Kyle Johnson and red-shirt junior right-hand pitcher CJ Hirschy will play in Harrisonburg this summer.

Johnson, a 5’8″ 170 pound right-hander from Jackson, NJ was the only Bronc to appear in all 53 games with 52 starts at second base during the 2017 season. He led the team with 59 hits, and 19 multiple hit games, and four three-hit games.  He posted a .285 batting average and a team high 13 stolen bases, with 31 runs, 59 hits, 10 doubles, 1 triple, two home runs, 18 RBI’s, and 25 walks. Johnson was named the College Sports Madness MAAC Player of the Week on March 14.

CJ Hirschy, a 5’11” 185 pound right-hand pitcher from Toms River, NJ returns to the field this spring after having a medical red-shirt last season. Hirschy is a business administration major.

We look forward to having these two young Broncs playing for the Harrisonburg Turks this summer.
