WAYNESBORO–A steamy night in Waynesboro hosted a hotly-contest game between the Turks and the Generals.

Jake Brace (Georgia Tech) started on the mound for Harrisonburg and Nathan Schneider for the Generals. Each turned back a few uprisings and the game was scoreless in the 5th inning.

In the 5th, Waynesboro awoke with two outs stringing together 5 hits to take a 2-0 and end the night for Brace. The Turks answered back immediately in the 6th with 2 runs on 3 hits on a single by Paul Castillo (Jacksonville).

As the game continued to heat up, the Generals plated 3 runs on 4 hits in the 6th. Conner Roberts (UCSB) relieved Brace and a few hitters later, Jake Lane (Florida Tech) spelled Roberts.

After a scoreless 7th, the Turks rallied on Generals reliever Hunter Shuff for three runs on just two hits. Harrisonburg drew several walks and stole a base to amplify the pressure. Austin Embler (UNCG), Elian Merejo (Eastern Florida), Luke Nussman (Shenandoah) each drove in a run to tie the game at 5-5.

In the bottom of the 8th, Waynesboro opened with a single and double to chase Lane. Cade Bullinger (Midland College) headed to the hill attempting to slam the door. After hitting Andrew Orzel to load the bases, Bullinger buckled down. Alex Brait struck out, Bryce Teodosio popped to third and Dalton Wingo was fanned to end the rally.

In the 9th inning with the game still tied at 5-5, Bullinger and Generals lefty Alex Harper-Cook set the sides down in order.

Harper-Cook retired the Turks 1-2-3 in the top of the tenth setting up the finale. Gabe Montenegro doubled to left to start the inning. Chase Cheek sacrificed him to 3rd base. The Turks intentionally walked Orzel to set up a double play possibility. Brait then lined a 1-2 pitch to left to plate Montenegro for the 6-5 win.

Harper-Cook (2-0) pitched two spotless innings to get the win. Bullinger (0-1) took the loss for the Turks.

Waynesboro (11-12) travels to Rebel Park tonight to take on New Market. Harrisonburg (13-12) is back on the road tonight at Purcellville. Game time in 7:00 at Fireman’s Field.
