HARRISONBURG – The Harrisonburg Turks fell to the Waynesboro Generals 4-2 on Friday, but made it close despite trailing the entire game. The newly acquired Orynn Veillon (University of New Orleans) made his debut with the Turks, hitting third and playing center field. Veillon had two hits on the evening, including a triple that brought in the team’s only two runs.

Grant Van Scoy (Illinois) started the rally in the fifth with a walk by Generals’ starting pitcher Evan Gillespie. Austin Embler (UNC Greensboro) was then hit by a pitch, which put runners on first and second for the Turks. Veillon drove in Van Scoy and Embler with a triple to right center.

Those would be the only two runs the Turks could muster up against a Waynesboro team that put runs on the board in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings. Alex Brait doubled down the line in left to score Chase Cheek in the first. In the third, Kyle Wrighte walked, stole second, and then scored on a single by Gabe Montenegro. In the fourth, Jackson Webb walked, stole second, stole third, and then scored on an error by Van Scoy at shortshop on a ball hit by Andrew Orzel. In the sixth, Dalton Wingo doubled, Webb singled, and Wingo scored on a single by Orzel, who had two RBI on the night. Gabe Montenegro had two hits for the Generals.

Andrew Liewellyn (Wingate) and Cam Irvine (Virginia Tech) added two hits each for the Turks. Starting pitcher Andrew Bohm (Purdue), who gave up three runs on three hits and struck out eight, got the loss. Gillespie got the win. Alex Harper-Cook got the save.

The Turks drop to 13-15 and look to bounce back from a six-game losing streak on Saturday at home against the Charlottesville Tom Sox.
