Demon Deacon Hurlers Join Turks Pitching Staff

Turks Coach Bob Wease has had the Turks since 1990. Over the last 29 years there has been a lot of young men play for him at Veterans Memorial Park. Many of those players went on to other careers after their college days were over. However, many of them went on to play in the MLB while others continued in the game of baseball through coaching. One of those outstanding men is Head Coach Tom Walter of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons played for the Turks in 1990. Coach Walter is entering his 10th year heading the Wake Forest program. Coach Wease has maintained a friendship with Coach Walter over the years and has recruited a lot of his Deacons.

This year is no different. We signed two right hand pitchers that we are excited to have join the Turks pitching staff at JMU Veterans Memorial Park.

Reese Robinson a junior transfer from the University of Cincinnati is 6’8″, weighs 250 pounds and is from Dayton, OH. During his two years at Cincinnati Robinson pitched one scoreless inning at San Diego on their opening weekend before suffering a season-ending injury. However, as a freshman the big guy pitched in 15 games with a 3.86 ERA and a 1-2 with 1 save record.

Andrew Rust, a 6’3″ 220 pound freshman from New Bern, NC will also join the Turks pitching staff.  Rust was a four-sport athlete in high school, earning 10 total varsity letters in baseball, basketball, cross country and swimming, also earning all-conference honors in basketball and cross country. He earned 2018 Mid-State 2A Conference Pitcher of the Year honors after recording a 1.17 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 46 innings. Rust chose Wake Forest over Princeton, Harvard, Cornell, Davidson, MIT and Duke.
