Turks Continue to Fill Team’s Roster

Harrisonburg, VA- In the last week the Harrisonburg Turks gained four new players. Liam McDonnell of JMU and Brandon Stephens of UNC Greensboro have brought power to the mound. Immanuel Wilder, an outfielder from Western Carolina, has already provided two runs for the Turks. RJ Schreck is joining us from Duke and will also be seen in the outfield.

McDonnell got connected to the Turks through our current players from JMU, and he has high hopes for this season. “My goals are to get to the playoffs and win a championship. I want to show everyone what the Turks are made of,” McDonnell said. So far this season, McDonnell has had two appearances on the mound striking out 6 batters in his 4.2 innings.

Stephens is our newest right-handed pitcher coming in at the end of the last week. Stephens has had one appearance on the mound making his debut this past Saturday against the Waynesboro Generals. He pitched 1.1 innings and struck out two batters while only giving up one hit. His performance made him the save-pitcher for the game.

Wilder also made his debut during Saturday’s game starting in centerfield and had three at-bats. Despite only being here for a few days, Wilder already feels the Turks are like home. “I was nervous (for the first night), but the guys have made me feel at home,” Wilder said. In the bottom of the seventh of Wilder’s season debut, he hit a double and was later brought in by Nick Zona. “I wanted to be aggressive early and make things happen. I hope to help the Turks keep winning,” Wilder said.

Schreck started off his season on Sunday against the Staunton Braves, and it has been a quick turn around for him from his season at Duke. “My season ended about a week and a half ago. Three days ago, I got the call to come play, and I took a 13-hour flight to get here on Saturday,” Schreck said. His season debut was a good game for the right fielder to see how the Turks play, and in his three at-bats, he scored one run. “I got a good feel for the game, and I hope to improve in every aspect,” Schreck said.

The Turks are excited to have these four players join our roster, and they have already proven to be great assets to the team. We hope these guys can help us keep our win streak going as we face Purcellville and Woodstock on the road later this week.
