Turks Move to Third Place in the South Division

Woodstock, Va. – The Harrisonburg Turks pick up the 3- 1 victory on the road over the Woodstock River Bandits to move up from last place in the South Division to third place.

The Turks six-game winning streak ended on Tuesday night when the Turks lost to the Purcellville Cannons. However, the Turks have still won eight of their last ten games and have increased their winning percentage to 0.550.

Will Brian started the game for the Turks on the mound. He played in five innings allowing three hits, four walks and getting six strikeouts. He finished with a 2.08 ERA.

Alex Hoppe came in for Brian the bottom of the sixth. Hoppe got the win on the night and pitched three innings throwing for one hit and two strikeouts getting a 2.08 ERA as well.

The game remained scoreless between the Turks and the River Bandits until the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Josh Madole was walked allowing Nick Zona to score for the Turks.

Jed Bryant was up to bat next and hit a single down the right foul line. McCann Mellett and Zack Budzik crossed home plate for the Turks.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Turks were leading the River Bandits 3-0. Jacob Edwards replaced Alex Hoppe for the Turks. Connor Hood sit a single for Woodstock and Lael Lockhart scored putting the game at 3-1. Edwards then struck out Tomas Sanchez to end the game.

Edwards threw in one inning, giving up one earned run, two walks and three strikeouts. Edwards pitched a 2.70 ERA and got the save on the night.

The Turks will travel to Staunton to play the Braves for the fifth time this season. The Turks have yet to win at Gypsy Hill Park but won 8-6 the last time the two teams faced at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Turks will look to continue their winning form when they play the Braves at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.
