River Bandits Take Down the Turks 6-3

Woodstock, Va. – The Harrisonburg Turks traveled to Woodstock and were defeated 6-3 on the road. The Turks are now on a four-game losing streak and are 3-7 in their last ten.

The River Bandits scored first to take the lead. On the first pitch of the bottom of the second inning, Nick Holesa blasted a home run down right field to score for Woodstock.

In the top of the third inning, the Turks scored a run to tie the game. Austin Lynch, the Turks’ right fielder, stole second base and after an error by the Woodstock catcher he was able to steal third base. The Woodstock center fielder then slipped when trying to pick up the ball and Lynch took off and crossed home plate.

Woodstock then took the lead back in the bottom of the fourth. Isaac Quinones doubled and Andrew Puglielli scored to put Woodstock ahead 2-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Turks made a pitching substitution taking out starting pitcher Rafe Schindler and putting in Jack Roberts. Schindler posted a 5.40 ERA and received the loss on the night. He pitched in 4.1 innings allowing five hits, four earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts.

The River Bandits extended their lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Caleb Ward hit a double and Aidan Nagle scored. Nick Holesa then hit his second home run of the game and scored both Lael Lockhart and Caleb Ward.

With the score at 6-1 in the top of the seventh, Aaron Levy scored one run for the Turks. After an error from the Woodstock second baseman, Levy ran from second to score and cut the Woodstock lead.

The Turks scored one more run in the top of the eight. Caston Peter singled and Josh Madole scored putting the game at 6-3.

In the bottom of the eight, the Turks replaced Jack Roberts and subbed in Brandon Stephens.

Roberts pitched in 2.2 innings and got a 2.65 ERA. Roberts allowed three hits, two earned runs, one walk and two strikeouts. Stephens pitched in one inning and threw two strikeouts. He received a 3.38 ERA.

In the ninth, Nick Zona was grounded out to end the game and give the Woodstock River Bandits the victory.

The Turks (12-15) will travel to Kate Collins Field and face the Waynesboro Generals (21-9) tonight at 7 p.m.
