Turks Lose in New Market

New Market, Va.- The Harrisonburg Turks were unable to get the victory on the road against the New Market Rebels. The Turks lost 9-3 and are only 2-8 in their last ten games.

The Turks took an early lead in the top of the second inning. Immanuel Wilder singled to right field and Aaron Levy was able to score for the Turks.

Later in the inning on a bases loaded situation, Tom Caufield was hit by a pitch and McCann Mellett scored to put the Turks ahead 2-0.

The Rebels responded quickly in the bottom of the second inning. On the second pitch of the inning, Keiji Parkhurst hit a home run to put New Market on the board.

New Market’s Hunter Hart hit a single to bat in Nick Nolan and tie the game at 2-2.

The Turks took the lead back in the top of the third inning when Josh Madole blasted a solo home run getting his first of the season.

New Market once again responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. Joshua Cox scored after Keiji Parkhurst was grounded out.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Rebels scored three more runs. Pedro Castellano hit a sacrifice fly and Ramon Machado scored to put the Rebels in the lead.

Kyle Decker then singled and Keiji Parkhurst and Cade Hungate scored putting the Rebels ahead 6-3.

The Turks made a pitching substitution in the bottom of the fifth. Jack Roberts came in for starting pitcher Alex Lozado.

Lozado made his debut for the Turks pitching in four and a third innings, receiving a 12.46 ERA. Lozado threw no strikeouts and five walks allowing five hits and six earned runs.

The Rebels extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jonah Seagears was able to score off a Ramon Machado sacrifice fly.

Keiji Parkhurst hit a single and Joshua Cox crossed home plate to make the score 8-3.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Turks made another pitching substitution. Jack Roberts was replaced by Matthew Larson who also made his pitching debut for the Turks.

Roberts worked in two and two-thirds innings giving up five hits and two earned runs. Roberts also threw one walk and three strikeouts. He received a 3.20 ERA on the night.

The bottom of the eight saw the Rebels score one more run. Pedro Castellano doubled and Keiji Parkhurst scored the final run making the score 9-3.

In his one inning of work, Larson allowed three hits, one earned run and threw no strikeouts and no walks getting a 9.00 ERA.

The Turks (13-18) will face the Woodstock River Bandits (19-13) at Veterans Memorial Park Monday night at 7:30 p.m. to make up a rain out from July 3rd. Come out and support the Turks!
