Harrisonburg Falls 8-3 in Strasburg

Strasburg, VA- The Harrisonburg Turks fell short against the Strasburg Express losing 8-3. Despite some good plays from the Turks, they were unable to generate much offense compared to the Express.

Once again, the Turks took an early lead. Tom Caufield was able to score off an error from Strasburg’s third baseman.

The Express rallied in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Johnson got a home run and scored Brandon Henson. Austin Garofalo was then able to score off an error in the Turks’ outfield.

In the bottom of the fifth the Express extended their lead. Tyler Johnson doubled to right field and Brett Hawkins scored. Zachary Scott then hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Brandon Henson came across to score. Hunter Blalock hit a single to third base and allowed Tyler Johnson to score.

The bottom of the fifth saw the Turks make a pitching substitution. Jack Roberts came in for starting pitcher Cole McNamee. McNamee pitched in four innings and received a 3.55 ERA. He allowed four hits, three runs, two earned runs, three walks, and got two strikeouts.

The Turks scored two runs in the top of the sixth. Harry Brown hit an RBI home run batting in RJ Schreck. It was Brown’s second home run of the season.

The Express responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Henson singled to left field and Josiah Ortiz scored.

In the bottom of the seventh the Express scored the winning run. Garrett Evans doubled to left field and Griffin Cheney crossed home plate and scored.

The Turks made another pitching substitution in the bottom of the eight. Mathew Larson replaced Jack Roberts on the mound. Roberts received a 4.57 ERA and pitched in two innings. Roberts gave up six hits, four earned runs, threw no walks and no strikeouts.

Larson pitched in one inning allowing two hits, one earned run and two walks. He threw two strikeouts and posted a 6.75 ERA.

Austin Lynch then came in Matthew Larson in the bottom of the eight. Lynch pitched in one inning allowing two hits and getting two strikeouts.

Tom Caufield then struck out swinging in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for Strasburg.
