Welcome this Pair of Georgetown Hoyas to Harrisonburg

Turks Coach Bob Wease has owned the team since 1990. Many of his players have gone on to play professional baseball while others have continued in baseball through the coaching ranks. Recruiting pipelines have been established with many Turks alumnae at whatever school they have coached at. Turks outfielder Edwin Thompson (Maryland) was a member of the 2000 Harrisonburg Turks team that won the Valley Baseball League Championship. Once he began his coaching career he has sent players to Harrisonburg in hopes that his players enjoy their experience playing for the Turks in the Valley League as he did.

Edwin Thompson is the head coach at Georgetown University and is sending two of his Hoyas to play at Veterans Memorial Park this summer.

Christian Ficca, is a 6-5 205 pound catcher from Chevy Chase, MD. He bats left and throws right. The rising junior
started in 28 of his 29 appearances in his freshman season. He racked up 20 hits, four doubles, a triple, and a home run along with 11 RBIs and four runs scored and posted a .213 batting average. He was a member of the Big East All-Academic Team.

Ficca graduated in 2020 from Gonzaga College High School. He earned a Second Team All-WCAC selection as a sophomore and honorable mention honors as a junior. He was on the Gonzaga team that won a state championship in 2017.

Ficca is starting his spring season late with the Hoyas due to an early injury. He’s posting a .308 batting average with 13 at-bats, scoring 4 runs, 4 hits, 5 RBIs, and a .538 OB%

Andrew Williams is a 6-2 205 pound left-hand pitcher for Georgetown. The rising sophomore is from Atlanta, GA. Before Georgetown Williams split time with Marist High School and Rockhurst High School. He was a member of the Marist team that captured the 2021 Georgia 4A state and district championships. Also in 2021, he earned first-team all-district and second-team all-state selections. Williams was also named the #29 left-hand pitcher in Georgia by Perfect Game.

This spring Williams has been productive on the mound for the Hoyas by posting a 3.10 ERA, a 1-1 record, starting in three of his five appearances in 20.1 innings pitched.

We thank Coach Thompson for valuing his experience in Harrisonburg with the Turks so many years ago so much that he wants his players to have the same opportunity. Welcome to Harrisonburg Christian and Andrew!
