Luchterhand Named 2011 Most Valuable Pitcher

Congratulations to Harrisonburg Turks RHP Aaron Luchterhand (Arkansas Tech) for being named the 2011 Valley Baseball League Most Valuable Pitcher!

Luchterhand posted a league-best 1.60 ERA, while holding opponents to a .168 batting average and threw a league-high 73.0 innings. He had a 4-1 record with 48 strikeouts against 18 walks in that span.

This was Aaron’s final year with the Turks. Our fans have enjoyed watching Aaron for the last three summers. All of your Turks fans wish continued success to “Aussie” / “Lucky” (his nicknames) in his baseball career!

Turks Alum Drew Granier Has Successful First Season

RHP Drew Granier (U. Louisiana-Monroe) is finishing up a successful first season with the Vermont Lake Monsters (Oakland A’s Class A). Granier had an impressive 1.91 ERA in 28.1 innings with 1-1 record in 7 starts. The right-hander tossed 34 strike outs, 22 walks, and 21 hits, 11 runs and only 6 earned runs.

Granier made his mark in the Valley Baseball League for the Harrisonburg Turks in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 Grainer was 5-1 in 44.1 innings with a 2.64 ERA and 49 strikeouts. In 2010 he was 6-1 in 72.2 innings with a 2.97 ERA and 84 strikeouts. He was drafted in 2011 by the Oakland A’s in the 32nd round his senior year. Auburn Tiger Blake Austin Shares His Summer Experience

Austin was a great defensive power behind the plate this summer for the Turks with a .988 fielding percent. At the plate the freshman Auburn Tiger hit .263 with 114 at bats. He had 30 hits, 16 doubles, 3 home runs and 24 RBIs 16 walks and was 3-4 in stolen bases.

Perfect Game Announces Their All American Summer League Team

Harrisonburg Turks Shine On The List Perfect Game writer, Allan Simpson, just released his 2011 All American Summer League Team. The Harrisonburg Turks were fortunate enough to have two of their players make the list.

2011 Harrisonburg Turk outfielder Mac Williamson (Wake Forest U.) was a vital part of guiding the Turks to a league best 34-14 record. Williamson led the team with 10 home runs and a .381 batting average, while he was second on the team with 38 RBIs and third on the team with 11 doubles. Williamson went 48-for-126 at the plate for the season. Mr. Simpson’s comment on Williamson was, ” Easily top slugger in Valley League at .381-10-38, but season ended prematurely when fouled ball off foot.” Continue reading “Perfect Game Announces Their All American Summer League Team”
