The Harrisonburg TURKS (2-0), held the Covington Lumberjacks (1-1) to just three hits as they defeated the Lumberjacks 11-4 at Veterans Memorial Stadium. A stellar performance was put on by TURKS pitcher, Tyler Norrick (Junior, Southern Illinois), going five complete innings, striking out 11, walking 3, and giving up no hits. Relief pitching came from Kent Atzinger (Sophomore, Young Harris College), Scott Brune (Freshman,Iowa University), and Nick Pereria (Junior, U. of San Francisco), which combined their efforts to hold the Lumberjacks to only 3 hits, and giving up just 4 runs. The TURKS offense was lead by TURKS third baseman, Ryan Parker (Junior, Indiana University), who went 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. TURKS shortstop, Gered Mochizuki (Freshman, Yavapai Junior College)helped add to the TURKS 10 hits by going 3-5. TURKS DH, Nate Schill (Junior, James Madison University) contributed to the TURKS scoring spree, by adding a hit and collecting two RBI’s. Although the TURKS were able to produce 11 runs against last years Southern Division Champions, they left 12 runners stranded on the bases throughout the 8 1/2 innings of play. The TURKS continued to be aggressive on the bases, taking advantage of the Lumberjacks 9 errors and collecting their second win of the 2004 season. The TURKS next game will be Wednesday, June 9, at Veterans Memorial Stadium against the Loudoun County Rangers. Game time is 7:30.
