7/02/04 – Harrisonburg TURKS
This week took a tole on the TURKS infield. On Tuesday, June 29th at Woodstock against the River Bandits, second baseman Cameron Clarke twisted his ankle during a play at second base. On Wednesday, June 30th at Waynesboro against the Generals, shortstop Gered Mochizuki slipped and fell as he was rounding first base and landed on his knee. On Thursday, July 1st at home against the Covington Lumberjacks, third baseman Corby Heckman got hit during two at bats on his calf. And finally, Friday, July 2nd in Winchester against the Royals, outfielder Reggie Watson who filled in at second base, got hit on his elbow during two at bats. All four players are being considered on a day to day basis to return to play. With three of their starters out of the line-up tonight, the TURKS found themselves coming up short in the hit department as they lost to the Winchester Royals in a 4-0 decision. The TURKS offense only produced 3 hits; a single each by Reggie Watson (U. Indiana), Joe Kemp (U. Indiana), and Kevin Koski (Southern Illinois). The TURKS defense committed two errors. Newcomer, Will Mann, a right-hand pitcher (Sophomore) from Florida Atlantic made his Valley League debut tonight. He posted five strike outs, with two walks, allowing four hits, one run and one unearned run in seven innings work. Andrew Weber (Southern Illinois) came in relief and gave up two runs in the eighth. The TURKS (14-9) return home tomorrow night, Saturday, July 3rd against the Luray Wranglers (13-10). Game time is 7:30 p.m. Come out and support your Harrisonburg TURKS!
