VBL Players of the Week ….TURKS Nick Pereria Named Again

VBL Weekly Honors – ———————————————————– Nick Pereira of Harrisonburg has twice earned honors. Honors for the week of June 28-July 4 Northern Players of the Week: The Northern player of the week is again Jon Love (Kennesaw State) with the Cardinals of Front Royal. Love went 10-for-21 during the past week and hit .455 to improve his season average to .349. Love leads the league in home runs with eight and picked up two in the last week along with nine RBI and three doubles. Love also has crossed the plate 23 times, with six coming from last week’s games. Love will play for the Northern Division All-Star squad. There are co-pitchers of the week for the Northern Division. Both Jeff Dagenhart (William & Mary) with the New Market Rebels and Chris Howell (Tennessee) of the Winchester Royals had great weeks on the mound. Dagenhart threw for seven total innings allowing only four hits, giving up no runs, and fanned eleven. Dagenhart now has a 2.39 ERA in 26 1/3 innings thrown. Howell pitched a shutout against Southern-Division-leading Harrisonburg on July 2 and gave up only three hits with seven strikeouts adding a win to his now 3-1 record. Harrisonburg had won six straight. Southern Players of the Week: The Southern player of the week is Brandon Selvog (Tennessee Tech) of the Waynesboro Generals. Selvog went 7-for-16 at the plate and recorded a .438 batting average to boost his season average to .309. Selvog also smacked two doubles, struck out only twice and had two stolen bases. The Generals have struggled early in the season but Selvog has helped out with 29 hits, 42 total bases, and has crossed the plate 17 times to lead the ball club. Selvog has also been voted to play for the South in the Valley League All-Star game. The Southern pitcher of the week is once again Nick Pereria (San Francisco) with the Harrisonburg Turks’ organization. Pereria is 4-0 after picking up two wins this past week and had a 0.00 ERA to lower his total ERA even more to a 1.26. In 35 2/3 innings of work, Pereria has fanned 42, walked only six, and allowed 23 hits. Pereria has made eight appearances for the Turks including four starts and will also be a member of the Southern Division All-Star team.
