WEEKLY HONORS FOR THE WEEK July 19-July 25, 2004 Northern Division: The player of the week for the Nothern Division was Jon Skorupski (Florida) with the Front Royal Cardinals. Skorupski batted .400 this past week with 12 hits including seven doubles, one home run, seven RBI and four runs scored. Skorupski has a .327 average this season with 37 hits, seven home runs, and 22 RBI. Skorupski also has 11 multi-hit games including one game with four hits, and five multiple RBI games. The pitcher of the week for the Northern Division was Josh Gerstel (Clarion) of the Luray Wranglers. Gerstel picked up a win this past week in two relief appearances. He had a 2.08 ERA which improves his overall ERA to 3.38 for the season which leads the Wranglers. Gerstel threw for eight and two-thirds innings this week, allowing four hits, two earned runs, walked just two and struck out 12. Southern Division: The player of the week for the Southern Division was Irvin McFarland (Rowan) with the Generals of Waynesboro. McFarland batted .444 this past week with eight hits, two doubles, three home runs in three straight games, six RBI and five runs scored. McFarland improved to .275 on the year with 36 hits, four home runs and 21 RBI to lead the Generals. McFarland has 11 multi-hit games and six multiple RBI games. The pitcher of the week for the Southern Division was Derek Blacksher (Panola JC) with the Staunton Braves organization. Blacksher made two appearances this past week and had one starting role. He had a 1.80 ERA which lowers his overall ERA to 2.17 while pitching 10 innings on the week while giving up five hits, two earned runs, one walk and fanned 13. Blacksher is 2-2 on the season and has 47 strikeouts which is tied with Phillip Morrison for the team lead.
