WEEKLY NOTES for the week of July 19-July 25, 2004 Covington: Ryan Taylor (West Virginia State) batted .286 this past week for the Lumberjacks with four hits, a double, home run and three RBI. Taylor is now batting .351 with nine RBI in only nine games with the Covington squad. Ty Marotz (Arizona State) picked up a win against Woodstock on July 25 in a 7-1 win for the Lumberjacks. Marotz had a 1.00 ERA in the last week, throwing a complete game while giving up one earned run, five hits and struck out nine. Front Royal: Jon Love (Kennesaw State) batted .364 in seven games this week for the Cardinals with eight hits in 22 at bats. Love connected with two balls for home runs, six runs scored and five RBI. Love leads the Front Royal ball club with a .357 average, 51 hits, and leads the league with 13 home runs. Avi Rasowsky (George Washington) made two appearances in the last week including one starting role and picked up a win. Rasowsky had a 1.86 ERA going nine and two-thirds innings while giving up four hits, two earned runs and fanned two. Harrisonburg: Joe Kemp (Indiana) is leading the league with a .394 batting average and added to his numbers going 10-for-21 this past week. Kemp had one home run, six RBI and four runs scored. Kemp’s home run came against Woodstock on July 22 when the Turks defeated the River Bandits 16-0. Tim Gudex (Iowa) made the starting appearance against the River Barndits, throwing for a complete game shutout and gave up six hits while striking out nine. Gudex leads the league with 75 strikeouts in 58 and 1/3 innings pitched. Loudoun: Jeremy Belotti (South Florida) was the leading hitter for the Rangers this past week with a .474 average and nine hits in 19 at bats. Belotti also had four doubles, five RBI, and four runs scored. Belotti improved his overall average to .275 and has 24 RBI on the year. Jason Kiley (Florida-Gulf Coast) picked up a win for the Loudoun ball club this past week, going seven innings and gave up seven hits, three earned runs and struck out three. Luray: Danny Murphy (Jacksonville) batted .273 for the Wranglers this past week with six hits, a double, home run and five RBI. Murphy has a .286 average for the year and 28 hits after arriving with the ball club late and has started in all 25 games he’s played. Luray threw 14 pitchers this past week and nine had no decision. Jon Hancock (Mississippi) made two starting appearances this past week and got no decision while giving up 10 hits, five earned runs, and fanned 10 in seven innings of work. New Market: Marion Knowles (North Florida) was the key hitter for the Rebels this past week with a .429 average and nine hits in 21 trips to the plate. Knowles had one double, one home run and two RBI. Knowles also picked up two stolen bases in two attempts to give him nine for the year. Tim Norton (Connecticut) threw for seven innings this past week and picked up a win in a starting appearance giving up no earned runs, three hits, and fanned seven. Staunton: Jeff Beachum (Middle Tennessee State) batted .478 for the Braves this week and had 11 hits, two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored. Beachum leads the ball club with a .325 average and eight doubles. Phillip Morrison (Mercer) had a 2.00 ERA this past week after throwing a complete game, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and struck out six. Morrison has a 3.14 ERA for the season and improved to 4-0 after pitching his second complete game this year. Waynesboro: Brandon Selvog (Tennessee Tech) hit for a .467 average this past week for the Generals and had seven hits and three runs scored. Selvog leads the ball club with a .313 average, has 45 hits and for home runs. Matt Fairweather (Catawba) picked up a win this week and threw for seven innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits and struck out 11. Fairweather improved to 3-4 on the season in his eighth starting appearance. Winchester: Kyle Walter (Bucknell) was the leading hitter for the Royals this week with a .389 average, three doubles, two home runs, six RBI and five runs scored. Walter is batting .292 for the season with 33 hits, five home runs and 14 RBI. Sean Stidfole (Penn State) had a 0.00 ERA this past week and picked up a win in one starting appearance. Stidfole gave up two hits, no earned runs and fanned seven in six innings pitched. He has a 2.39 ERA on the season with 53 total strikeouts and has allowed only 10 earned runs. Woodstock: Josh Archer (Middle Tennessee State) went 8-for-20 this past week with a grand slam against Front Royal in a 16-4 win for the River Bandits. Archer had two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored. Chase Lirette (South Florida) went 2-0 this past week. Lirette’s first appearance of the week was against Winchester where he pitched five innings giving up five hits, no earned runs and struck out four. His second appearance was against Loudoun and pitched eight innings while giving up four hits, no earned runs and fanned 10.
