Ryan Parker Named Academic All District for Second Time

Parker Named Academic All-District for Second Time Parker was a second team Academic All-American in 2004. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Ryan Parker has been selected to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V baseball team, the organization announced Thursday afternoon. Parker is one of four infielders on the 11-player team and makes the squad for the second straight season. "Ryan is an outstanding young man and this is another great honor for him," said Indiana head coach Bob Morgan. "He was an Academic All-American last year, and hopefully this is one of many awards Ryan will receive this year. He’s just an outstanding young man, and we’re real proud of Ryan Parker and glad to have him as part of the Indiana program." The Hilliard, Ohio, product has been an integral part of the top offense in the Big Ten this season. Parker has started 47 of the team’s 48 games at first base and is third on the team with a .350 batting average. He also is third on the club with four home runs and 48 RBI. In addition, Parker has scored 36 runs, stolen nine bases and collected 14 doubles and a pair of triples while playing flawlessly in the field (.995 fielding percentage). Parker has senior academic standing and is a business management major. He carded the highest GPA of any member of the all-district team. Parker and the other 10 players on the club will now move on to the national ballot where they will be candidates for Academic All-American. This is the third straight season a Hoosier baseball player has made the team. In 2003, former pitcher Jacob Cary earned a spot on the squad, and Parker has been tabbed all-district each of the last two seasons. Parker and the Hoosiers return to action this weekend in Ann Arbor, Mich., against the Michigan Wolverines at Ray Fisher Stadium. The teams will open the series with a 6:35 p.m. (EST) start on Friday, May 13, before playing a doubleheader at 4:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.
