Cousins and Robinson Share Southern Division Player of the Week Honors

VBL WEEKLY HONORS – June 21,2005 Southern Division Southern Division Player of the Week honors were shared by Harrisonburg Turks teammates Scott Cousins (San Francisco) and Clint Robinson (Troy). The duo combined to hit .551 and led the Turks to a 5-1 record for the week, including an active five game winning streak. Cousins, in his first week in the Valley League, led the league with a .556 batting average and 15 hits. The sophomore outfielder was also in the top five in total bases, on-base percentage, and stolen bases. Robinson, a sophomore first baseman, was second in the league with a .545 average and 12 hits. He led the league with five doubles and 11 runs batted in while also ranking in the top five in slugging and total bases. Robinson is batting .357 with a league-best 15 RBI for the season. Pitcher of the Week in the Southern Division went to Covington’s Ben Wade (Southern Mississippi). The freshman righthander allowed just two hits in six innings during the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday against Haymarket. He struck out four and walked two in earning the victory. Wade teamed with Chris Siebenaler to record a combined shutout in the 8-0 victory. For the season, Wade is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings on the mound. Northern Division Luray Wranglers outfielder Jamie McOwen (Florida International) garnered Player of the Week honors for the Northern Division. The freshman accumulated a .483 batting average in seven games as Luray had a league-best mark of 6-1 last week. He had three doubles, drove in six, and had a 5-for-6 performance in a 15-6 drubbing of Haymarket on Friday evening. McOwen holds a VBL-best .448 batting average for the season. Northern Division Pitcher of the Week was awarded to New Market’s Lee Tabor (Francis Marion). The sophomore southpaw won his only start last week, allowing two earned runs in 8 1/3 innings in a 6-5 win over Luray on Thursday. He struck out nine and walked three while allowing just six hits. For the season his is now 2-1 with a 2.22 ERA.
