Brad Mills Earns Southern Division Pitcher of the Week Honors

VBL Weekly Honors 7/19/05 SOUTHERN DIVISION Woodstock freshman outfielder Chris Joseph (Houston) put together a strong week to garner Southern Division Player of the Week honors in the Valley League. For the week, he ranked third in the league with a .474 batting average and tied for third with nine hits. Joseph led the league with a .947 slugging percentage and 18 total bases as well as tying for the lead with two home runs. In addition, he was second with eight runs scored and third with seven runs driven in for the week. Joseph raised his season batting average to .236 and now has three home runs and 12 RBI total. Harrisonburg sophomore Brad Mills (Arizona) had a dominant week on the mound to earn Southern Division Pitcher of the Week accolades. He went 2-0 in two starts with a 1.20 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 15 innings. On Monday, he earned the victory over Woodstock after allowing two runs in seven innings and striking out 10. He followed that with an overpowering outing on Sunday when he struck out 14 and allowed just three hits in eight innings as Harrisonburg shutout division-leading Covington 4-0. The southpaw’s total of 24 strikeouts was twice as many as the next best total for the week. He also led the league in innings pitched, wins, and runners picked off (3). For the season, Mills is now 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 30 innings. NORTHERN DIVISION Luray infielder Adam Amar (Memphis) won Northern Division Player of the Week honors after helping the Wranglers to a 5-2 week by going .429 in six games with one home run and six runs driven in. The sophomore also had six walks and four doubles while scoring six runs. He finished third in the league with a .762 slugging percentage, third in walks, tied for third with nine hits, first in doubles, and second in total bases. For the season, Amar is batting .260 with two home runs and 21 RBI. He has scored 31 runs and leads the VBL with 28 walks. New Market lefthander Matt Restivo (Stony Brook) captured Northern Division Pitcher of the Week after posting a 1.12 ERA in eight innings. He earned the victory in a 4-0 win over Haymarket on Wednesday after shutting out the Battle Cats in six innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven. Restivo then worked two innings in a 7-6 win at Luray on Saturday to pick up his first save of the season. For the season, the junior is now 4-2 with a 4.91 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 40.1 innings pitched.
