A.M. Chatter Daily News Record Written By Joe Lemire Moose Calls The Moose is running rampant — well at least his nickname is. Harrisonburg Turks first baseman David Dennis, dubbed the "Moose" by Coach Bob Wease, is accustomed to Memorial Stadium public address announcer, Curt Dudley, introducins him as the "Moose", but the moniker has become sufficiently commonplace that even Waynesboro’s PA announcer used the nickname during Sunday’s Valley League baseball game. Additionally, a moose horn is often blown preceding Dennis’ at-bats, and several Turks fans have begun placing their hands on the side of their heads to mimic actual moose horns while he’s batting. The 6 foot 5, 245-pound Dennis is transferring from San Diego City College to play at Oklahoma City University in the fall. He is hitting .325 (41-of-126) with nine doubles and 17 RBIs, though he’s hit only one home run.
