Valley Baseball League News Northern Division Winchester outfielder Lou Ullrich (Centreville, Va.) claimed VBL Northern Division Player of the Week honors for games played Monday, July 10 through Sunday, July 16. The Seminole Community College sophomore led the league with 12 runs driven in for the week. He hit .353 with 12 hits, four doubles, two home runs, seven runs, 12 RBIs, and three stolen bases in four attempts. In addition to RBIs, Ullrich was second in the league in doubles, and third with 22 total bases. He had a .405 on-base percentage and .647 slugging percentage. New Market closer Brandon Dickson (Marburg, Ala.) won Northern Division Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. He made three appearances, going 1-0 with one save and not allowing a hit in four and one-third innings. He walked two and struck out five. For the season, the Tusculum College senior is 3-0 with a 0.36 ERA in 24 and two-thirds innings. He has struck out 28, walked just four, and opponents are batting .155 against him. He leads the league by a wide margin with 11 saves. Southern Division Covington infielder Tommy Oravetz (Tallahassee, Fla.) garnered Southern Division Player of the Week accolades. The Florida State freshman led the league with a .500 batting average with 10 hits, nine runs, two doubles, and six RBIs. He was also first in on-base percentage (.667), tied for third in runs, and first in walks (nine). In 26 games, Oravetz is batting .317 with 21 runs, 14 RBIs, and a .513 on-base percentage. His 26 walks for the season rank second in the league and his .513 on-base percentage would lead by a wide margin except he narrowly misses the plate appearances minimum for the category. Waynesboro hurler Jon Dages (Indianapolis, Ind.) is the Southern Division Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore from Butler University tossed a five-hit shutout on July 10 against Harrisonburg. He struck out four and walked one while holding the Turks to a .167 batting average for the game. For the season, Dages is 3-0 with 30 strikeouts and 10 walks in 36 innings. His 1.50 ERA ranks second in the Valley League and his .184 opponent batting average leads the league.
